Before you start
Affirm is accessed through the wallet, not a separate link. Send your standard payment link or invoice — there's no Affirm-specific link.
Apple Pay requires an iPhone somewhere in the flow. Non-iPhone customers can still pay, but they'll need an iPhone to scan a QR code (see Step 2 below).
Google Pay requires Android 10 or higher. On older Android versions, the Pay Later option will not appear.
The customer completes a real-time eligibility check inside Affirm. Approval is determined by Affirm, not by you or the wallet.
Paying with Affirm via Apple Pay
Send the payment link. Send the customer your payment link or invoice for the amount owed.
Customer selects Apple Pay.
On an iPhone, Apple Wallet populates automatically.
On any other device, an Apple Pay QR code appears. The customer scans it with their iPhone, which opens Apple Wallet.
Open pay-later options. In Apple Wallet, the customer is prompted to choose a payment type. They select Other Cards & Pay Later Options, which lists every pay-later method available in their region.
Choose Affirm. The customer finds Affirm in the pay-later list.
If Affirm is already added, they select it and continue.
If not, they select Set Up and follow Affirm's inline setup steps first.
Complete the Affirm flow. Affirm runs a real-time eligibility check. If approved, the customer chooses a payment plan and confirms. They see the full cost, payment schedule, and end date before committing.
Paying with Affirm via Google Pay
Send the payment link. Send the customer your payment link or invoice for the amount owed.
Customer selects Google Pay. A new screen displays the Google Wallet.
Choose Pay Later → Affirm. The wallet shows two options: Pay Now and Pay Later. The customer chooses Pay Later, then selects Affirm from the pay-later providers.
Complete Affirm setup/approval. The customer continues through Affirm's setup and approval. Affirm runs a real-time eligibility check; if approved, the customer picks a plan and confirms. They see the full cost, schedule, and end date before committing.
Desktop note: On a computer using Google Chrome, the customer can use Chrome's autofill at the card field — select Affirm as the provider to insert an Affirm virtual card number and pay over time. This is a separate path from the Google Wallet flow above.
Troubleshooting
Customer doesn't see Affirm or a Pay Later option.
Apple Pay: Confirm the customer reached Apple Wallet on an iPhone (or scanned the QR with one) and selected Other Cards & Pay Later Options. Available options vary by region.
Google Pay: Confirm the customer's Android device is on version 10 or higher. Older versions won't show Pay Later.
Customer was declined. Eligibility is determined by Affirm, not by the wallet or the merchant. Direct the customer to Affirm's support for questions about a declined application or their payment schedule.
Customer is on a device that can't use either wallet. Apple Pay needs an iPhone in the chain; Google Pay needs Android 10+. A customer with neither (e.g., older Android and no iPhone) cannot complete Affirm this way — offer a standard card payment instead.
